Aurora
Technologies specializes in developing
software for credit card terminals that
implement the the Ashrahit 96 standard.
Ashrahit 96 is an Israeli standard
written by SHVA, that deals with credit
cards transactions carried out in Israel,
and the transmission of transactions,
parameters and black lists to and from
the central SHVA server. SHVA is a
credit card preprocessing firm, created
by a consortium of the local banks in
Israel. Until the middle of 1999,
all credit cards in Israel were magnetic
cards only. In the middle of 1999, the
credit companies in Israel decided to
issue credit cards with an IC chip. These
cards will be used as smart cards and
partially implement the EMV
specifications. An addendum was added to
the existing Ashrahit 96 specification.
This addition deals with the interaction
and processing of terminals, cards and
applications that will work with the
smart credit card.
The first
pilot in Israel was undertaken in the
city of Natanya. New POS terminals were
installed in numerous stores.
Credit cards issued for the pilot in
Israel include a smart card chip on board.
